IT Parks

    • Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is mandated to facilitate Pakistani IT industry and increase in the export of software and services from Pakistan. One of the major functions of PSEB is to set up and operate Information Technology (IT) parks and provide conducive and enabling infrastructure for the development of IT industry.
    • Information Technology Parks have already proven their worth globally and are part and parcel of the infrastructure, both in developed and developing countries. PSEB has conducted surveys periodically since 2004; the survey results indicate that absence of IT parks as one of the top three concerns of IT industry. Besides providing office space to IT companies such facilities are necessary for creating a platform for information exchange and linkage between academia, industry and the government. These facilities not only prove to be ideal research and development centers but also provide enormous boost to national economy; proven examples are IT parks in India, China and South Korea. After recognizing the benefit of IT parks, PSEB decided to establish its own state of the art IT Park in Islamabad.
    • PSEB has leased 47.79 acres of land in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad to build state of the art IT Park. This land is dedicated for development of IT Park and is ideally located for desired facility.

 

Scope & Salient Features of Proposed IT Park

  • Phase-1- Construction of buildings having approximately 1,000,00-1,500,00 square feet of covered area on 15 acres of land.
  • Infrastructure development and establishment cost Rs. 10.7 billion.
  • Broad band connectivity, power backup, transportation, data centers etc.
  • Facility management, legal and financial services, business generation and entrepreneurship development skills, international technology linkages with large corporations.
  • Common facilities such as research and development centers, application development laboratories, incubator facilities and entrepreneurship services, auditorium and virtual collaboration classrooms for brainstorming on technology trends, future possibilities and networking.

 

  

  

 

 

Software Technology Parks

Pursuant to PSEB's mandate to facilitate IT industry growth, PSEB established 1st STP in 1999 in Islamabad and so far, twelve (12) STPs have been established to provide IT enabled office space (equipped with quality ICT infrastructure and arrangements of backup power) to help the IT industry of the country to meet its immediate goals of increased FDI, technology transfer, increased exports, technology diffusion, increased employment, and human resource development. At the time, over 800,000 sq. ft. IT enabled office space has been provided in 12 designated Software Technology Parks where around 80 public and private IT / ITeS companies are engaged in software development and export services.

Many top tiers IT companies are working in STPs instead of taking space in traditional buildings due to the availability of latest ICT infrastructure and allied facilities along with a conducive IT work environment.

Objectives

The core objectives of Software Technology Parks in Pakistan are:

  • To provide a stable and reliable ICT infrastructure and other allied services to IT and ITeS  companies in Pakistan.
  • To promote the development and export of Software and software services.
  • To provide high speed Data Communication services including Value Added services to IT/ITeS companies.
  • To arrange backup power supply in case of power failure.
  • To Promote Entrepreneurship
  • Creating work conducive environment.
  • Increase IT-enabled office space by establishing new STP’s in Pakistan
  • Provision of reliable and redundant data communication services
