Access to EU Markets for ICT Sector – Joint Program by USAID SMEA, PSEB and PASHA

Dear PSEB Member Companies

GDPR Compliance and EU Market Access Planning

Half Day Conference – Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi

Islamabad- 8th May, 2018- Islamabad Club, Banquet Halls, 1000 hrs
Lahore – 9th May 2018 – PITB 3rd Floor Auditorium, Arfa Karim Technology Park, 1330 hrs
Karachi – 14th May 2018 – National Incubation Center, Karachi- NED University : 1330 hrs

USAID SMEA is a 5 year $35 Million program to support and strengthen the SME sector. It targets increase in sales, jobs, fostering entrepreneurship and increased sectoral contribution to GDP. The program is designed to work with small and medium ICT enterprises and startups who require support in technical skills, marketing and market access, bank credit and loans and business and growth planning.

USAID SMEA in partnership with PSEB and P@SHA, have started working on Access to markets initiative to identify and develop targeted interventions and boost exports in key markets. European Union (EU) markets are considered one of the fastest growing in the development of digital ecosystem &and offer growth potential for Pakistan’s ICT sector.

In an effort to increase Pakistan ICT sector exports to the EU, USAID SMEA is working on market understanding, prioritizing interventions and identifying key ICT players to work with in an effort to boost our exports to EU market.

USAID SMEA's strategic roadmap includes identification of the compliance and EU market access challenges, build the industry capacity to undertake the effort and identify the key ICT sector SMEs that can be facilitated through technical and financial assistance.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into effect on May 26, 2018 creating new set of challenges for ICT companies to safeguard the data of EU citizens. The regulation impacts all the product and services companies that store or process the EU citizens data. This applies to the B2B and the B2C businesses that solicit business in the EU. We anticipate the EU buyers of Pakistani ICT sector services would be interested in working with the ICT companies who comply to the local regulations. We foresee upcoming challenges to the IT and ITES companies who would not be ready to address the challenge.

USAID SMEA, in partnership with PSEB and P@SHA, have organized a Fundamental of GDPR training workshop for the ICT sector small and medium sized companies. An industry leading expert has been recruited to deliver the GDPR training. After the training, USAID SMEA will provide financial assistance to the ICT Enterprises who agree to subscribe to the USAID SMEA program and will be able to get customized assistance for the GDPR compliance journey.

We invite the C-Level executives and/or their designates to join us for the sessions in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
