Capacity Building of BPO/Call Center Industry of Pakistan

Dear PSEB Member,

The IT industry in Pakistan has grown significantly in the recent years due to the investment friendly policies and incentives of the Government. Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has consistently encouraged Human Capital Development for the capacity building and growth of Pakistan’s IT industry in local and international markets.

The Global BPO industry has seen phenomenal growth since 2002 and in 2015 it has reached $140 billion with compound annual growth rate of 6.9%. As per research carried out by A.T. Kearney for Global BPO Industry, by 2020 size of BPO industry is expected to be $250 billion.

While our Asian neighbors are enjoying high growth in this sector (ADB Economics Working Paper, Sept. 2013), Pakistan still lacks attractiveness for investors and startups in this sector. Despite having great potential in terms of financial returns, we lack major points in following two areas as per A. T. Kearney Global Services Location Index 2016;

  • 1. People Skills and availability
  • 2. Business Environment

No doubt, long term measures have been taken by GoP to improve the business environment with private sector but many initiatives need to be taken for development and availability of Skilled Human Resources to reap benefits from growth of this dynamic and fast growing industry.

To enhance the current capacity of BPO/Call Center Industry of Pakistan, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), IBEX Global and Pakistan Institute of Management (PIM) have signed an MoU to offer trainings in the areas of technical/BPO skills development. These trainings cover the topics of customer relationship management, sales & marketing, and management of BPO/Call Center business for improvement in People Skills and its availability. The trainings are highly discounted i.e 60% discount is offered on market training rates for PSEB member companies and graduates seeking a career in BPO Industry.

The detail of the training programs, subsidized cost and calendar are available at URL: http://www.pim.com.pk/capacity-building-for-customer-services-supervisors/. At the completion of this training program, certificate will be issued by PIM. PSEB will be acting only as an advisor of this program.

Canada-Pakistan ICT Forum in Toronto and Montreal in May 2017

Dear PSEB Member,

Canada was in the top ten exports destinations of Pakistan’s IT companies during 2015-16. Canada’s Tech Sector contributed $117 billion or 7.1% to Canada’s economic output in 2015. Some reports suggest that Canada may become the largest software exporter to the US in the future. Based on interest from Pakistan’s consulates in Canada, PSEB is planning an IT delegation to Canada for IT forums and B2B meetings in Toronto and Montreal in second half of May 2017.

The Ministry of International Trade, Government of Canada is the co-host of the Forum and would invite industry representatives, venture capitalists and outsourcing entities for B2B matchmaking and plenary meetings. More than 400 executives of Canadian companies are being invited to this forum. To see the list of Canadian companies who could be participating in the forum, please click here. Hence, attending the Pakistan–Canada Forum can generate new leads and business opportunities for Pakistan’s IT companies in the North American market. • • 24th May: Industrial visits and departure for Montreal in evening
  • • 25th May: Full day forum for gaming companies and startups
  • • 26th May: Departure from Toronto

Because visa processing for Canada takes at least two months, interested companies are requested to submit requisite documents to undersigned by 13th March, 2017 at latest. No applications will be accepted after this deadline.

  • • Company Profile
  • • Objective Statement (explaining why your company wants to participate in this particular event)
  • • Dully filled in, signed and stamped application form and signed and stamped TORs. Application Form & TORs are available here.
  • • Refundable Demand Draft of Rs. 20,000 in the name of Pakistan Software Export Board. The demand draft would be returned after the submission of tour and leads report to PSEB as per specified format within two weeks following the event.

To encourage IT companies to attend the Conference, PSEB would bear cost of attending the forums and would reimburse 50% of the cost of one economy fare per company after the event following submission of necessary receipts. Companies would be responsible for their own travel arrangements, accommodation and other associated costs. However, approximate hotel costs are mentioned as under for reference:

  • • Hotel Stay in Toronto: $120 + tax per night on twin sharing basis.
  • • Air Travel Toronto-Montreal-Toronto is $200/- per person.
  • • Hotel Stay in Montreal: $116 + tax per night on twin sharing basis.

Hence, two nights in Toronto followed by two nights in Montreal will cost around $672 plus taxes. Kindly contact the undersigned for any related queries before the deadline.
